Did You Know?
In Southern California landscapes, seasonal dormancy is often misunderstood as decline—but in reality, it’s a critical phase of healthy growth. Many trees naturally shed leaves and appear lifeless during cooler months as they conserve energy and strengthen their internal systems.
At Cadre, we recognize the difference between dormancy and distress. Our team proactively monitors plant health, ensuring your landscape remains on track for vibrant spring renewal. Through strategic care, pruning, and long-term planning, we protect the integrity and beauty of your investment year-round.
A dormant landscape today is a thriving landscape tomorrow—and with the right expertise, every season becomes an opportunity to enhance performance, sustainability, and visual impact.

Did You Know? Dormant Doesn’t Mean Dead.
In Southern California, some of the most beautiful and well-loved trees go dormant in the winter-and they often get mistaken for being dead!
Here are few that fool even the most seasoned property managers:
- Crape Myrtle – Drops all its leaves and appears brittle in winter, but bursts into vibrant color in summer.
- Western Redbud – A native favorite that goes bare in winter, then explodes with pink blooms in spring.
- Sycamore – Commonly confused with dead trees due to leaf drop and peeling bark.
- Chinese Elm & Fruit Trees – These lose all foliage in the colder months but come back full and green.
Pro Tip: Not sure if a tree is truly dead? Try the scratch test: scratch a small part of the bark- if it’s green underneath, the tree’s just resting.
At Cadre, we understand your trees and landscape don’t operate on a single season. That’s why we design and maintain with year- round plant health in mind.
